While serving in the army Philip receives a letter from home and finds out that the girl next door is getting married. The young man cares for her, so he goes AWOL and arrives home the day before her wedding. The two meet and Philip convinces his beloved Vasilisa to take a walk with him. She doesn't know yet that this long walk is going to change her life forever.
