Watermark

A watermark printed on 'the finest paper in the world' is what Buckland Mill was famous for. After 300 years in Dover, the mill has gone but the legend still remains: the watermark 'needed Dover water and cannot be made anywhere else.' 'One of the stand-out success stories of the region' for Screen South, the documentary feature Watermark tells the story of Buckland paper Mill in Dover until its abrupt closure in 2000, leaving behind a huge deserted site in the heart of the town. The film reflects on the impact on the workers' lives and the life of the town. Sociologist Tim Strangleman calls it ' a filmic paean to work and working class culture. Richly evocative, thought provoking and profoundly moving.'
