After grieving a tragic loss, Holland finds himself a new beneficiary to his best friend Gideon, who decides to fund Holland's costly college tuition as well as his own self-discovery. So when Gideon asks Holland to come back home and visit, it's only natural Holland do so. But while suburbia seems much the same, Gideon is noticeably different, chasing success and power at any cost. Holland soon realizes his chance to leave was really a chance to escape, as he witnesses his old environment caving in on his best friend, who's threatening to bring Holland under the rubble with him by disclosing his real reason for inviting Holland home: to help him plan and commit a murder.
