Lee Kang-ho, a third-generation Korean immigrant living in Japan, tells his father at a New Year's memorial service that he wants to be a citizen of South Korea. His father, a Communist, refuses. Soon after, the family's daughter reveals that she has a Japanese boyfriend. The father's rage boils over, and the Lee family is in for a rough New Year's.
