Spirit at the Mountaintop

Set afire by the Klu Klux Klan in 1928, this Denver historic site, Shorter Community AME Church was rebuilt and became the center of the Denver African American community through the first 60 years of the 20th Century. The story is also a summary history of African Americans in Denver with story insights involving Hattie McDaniel, Madam CJ Walker, Tuskegee Airmen, Dianne Reeves, the national NAACP with perspective from Dr. Bill King, Prof. African American History, Univ. of Colorado at Boulder. Nominated for two Emmy awards,the presentation is highlighted by original and African language gospel music. It was selected the feature Sunday documentary at the 2003 Hollywood Black Film Festival.
