The story of a poor family in 1920 Tuscany who's morals are tested when the son, Roberto, resorts to stealing to ensure their well-being. The family patriarch, Vittorio, is conflicted between his honest values and the necessity to survive; and must make a sacrifice, for the sake of his family.
