As a prelude to the civil war, General lee and his Kansas Brigade devastate the western counties of southern Missouri. Weary of the inhumanity, Evelyn, disguised as a member of Lane's Brigade, takes it upon herself to leave the regiment and find her missing father. With the help of her friend Tenny and a local Chaplin, the three set off across the southwest Missouri countryside to find the lost scout.
