After announcing further cuts in military spending at a press conference, the President of Durnsia is stopped by the government's military advisor, who tries to tell him that the spending cuts are angering the military, and warns of trouble if cuts are continued. The President ignores the warning. Leo, an average person living in Durnsia's capital, finishes his work at Shop n' Save for the day and heads home for the night. The next morning, he finds out on the news, that the military had overtaken the government in a swift coup. Knowing the violence that may arise, he heads to Mayhill International Airport to escape the country. However, just as he is about to board an aircraft, all flights are canceled in an attempt by the military to stop the country's people fleeing the country. Saddened that he now may have to deal with a harsher life under the new government, he heads home. As he heads through what is now a city pummeled by heavy rioting, he meets his friend Leo, who offers to smuggle him over the heavily restricted border.
