KikiT in Space

🎞️ Movie 5 min --
2012

KikiT in Space is a 'music-derived linear animation' i.e. the movement of the screen is generated by the sound track then recorded for playback. There is no immediate stimulus/response relationship between the sound and the resulting animations - this is deliberate. The KikiT VisuoSonic Research Group have extensive experience in creating live performance and installations, including for the 2010 London Design Festival. Here those techniques are used to create linear video. KikiT in Space features Maurice Owen on saxophone together with The South Belgium Brass Sextet. The result is an evocative mix of soulful music with images of other worlds appearing and vanishing in some form of relationship with the sound. Can the viewer work that relationship out or is it unobtainable?
