A silent film musician loses his job with the transition to sound. He travels up and down the coast of California playing the harmonica on a street corner. One day, he falls in love with a girl who gives him some change, but is chased out of town by a strict policeman. He shares an awkward moment with a businessman as they both eat the same bundle of fries. The businessman tells his fiance, the girl from earlier, who gives our hero a new bundle of fries. Before she walks over, our hero finds a bundle of fries hidden under his hat and realizes that he was the one who rudely intruded on the businessman. He gratefully accepts the girl's compassionate gift, hiding his embarrassment.
