An aging grocery store clerk is an obsessive collector of toys. When he finds a battered Superman action figure in the rain, we get a glimpse of his interior life, which is far more heroic and mysterious than what he shows to the outside world. When a young girl in the store clutches her own broken toy, the clerk sees a chance to help her, and by helping her, realizes he can be the hero he never had in his life. Sometimes, we find the hero in ourselves in the simplest and humblest of actions. Sometimes, Superman doesn't save us, we save Superman.
