Billy McKay is a failed boxer in Scotland. He returns to his small village in his early thirties to give regional boxing another go. Maggie, has watched all of Billy's fights. Her family has bullied and threatened him to stay away from Maggie as he is viewed as a loser by the entire town his whole life. Billy is ready to take on the whole town all in the name for love.
