Using a NIkon D-90, After Effects, Photoshop and Garageband, artist Jeanne Wilkinson merges diverse imagery to create a surreal 'end-of-days' feeling in the video 'An Accelerating Decline.' Made in 2010, well before Hurricane Sandy, it is at times prophetic, creating a mood of thoughtfulness about the current state of the world. It merges her self-portrait series with her drawings of buffalo and wolves, pointing out that not only do humans lose in our current environmental crisis, creatures do also. The animals seem to stare out of the chaos, entreating us to pay attention. The last part of the video uses imagery from the devastating BP oil spill. The music is made by Wilkinson on Garageband, using a kind of abstract layering of sounds and notes.
