A Dutch Jewish woman finds herself caught in a kind of limbo, unsure whether she is alive or dead. She wants desperately to return to her old life, to the living world, so that she can be with her husband. However, she finds herself unable to return; the city of Prague has trapped her. Shot in Prague, the city itself becomes a character, whose otherworldly alien aspects add to the woman's isolation and depression. The film has no spoken dialogue in order to intensify the isolating distance, the feeling of being a stranger in a strange land.
