The name Getty Images is ubiquitous, appearing in every newspaper, magazine, and web page as the provider of article-accompanying photographs. However, in popular culture, Getty Images is just that: a name. Where do all the images come from? More importantly, who are the few people selecting and editing these visual representations of our society? This 'Virtual Tour' puts Getty Images' archive on display. The video presents the physical archive space; the soundtrack comprises the voices of everyone who works at the archive. The overlapping soliloquies speak to the complex task of fitting one image to every request, one out of their 80 million assets. To reflect the archive's transition from analog to digital, the video is HD, while the audio was recorded on tape.
