The absurd love story is an homage piece containing stylistic nods to influential directors and their techniques: the filmic language of Vertov, the playfulness of Chaplin, and the irreverence of Godard for example. The 'silent' noir explores sexual and gender archetypes using symbolic imagery to question the persistence and adaptation of these patterns as they play out in the modern city. The centerpiece of the short, a chess game between the man and woman, represents the metaphoric power of the game in relation to human existence and addresses its historic lack of presence in film, with exception of Bergman's The Seventh Seal. Featuring an original score, the black and white cinematography and French and Italian dialogue contribute to a sense of ambiguity and anachronism.
