'The Other Shore' exists in a dystopia where food shortages are the norm and suicides happen often. Celia and George can't help but look across the water to the other shore and wonder at people's comfortable lifestyles and full bellies. When Celia is confronted with someone escaping that idealized society, it forces her to consider that the city on the other shore has problems of its own.
