'A Dance in the Forest' is a visual reflection of music and movement rooted in process and transience. The film documents an actual live dance performance that took place in Staten Island, New York on October 26, 2013 and is presented as both constructed abstract fiction and cinema verite. The dancers and musicians met at the start of the single day and, over the course of several hours, independently developed the performance under the guidance of Staten Island artist Melissa West. The film itself is heavily influenced by the poetry of Louise Gluck and seeks to stand as a testament to the fragile relationship between humans and our natural surroundings.
