The film begins with the end. We see in black and white two burglars break into an apartment and rob a box containing a beating heart. Only they aren't alone. One of them double crosses the other and they shoot each other. The other figure on the apartment emerges and shows himself to be the devil. The devil takes the box containing the heart and leaves. We then see how these men came to rob the box in color. Turns out they are crooked NYPD detectives that learn the heart has the provides endless power to whomever possesses it.
