Stalin's World

It all started when I met Viliumas Malinauskas, a former Lithuanian wrestling champion and collective farm director who became a businessman after the fall of the iron curtain and built an open-air museum of Soviet era sculptures. The films draws from video archives of the fifth anniversary of the park where he organizes parodic reenactments and plays the role of leader himself. What commentators sometimes call Stalin's World seems then to be nothing less than a countryside empire dedicated to the power and versatility of pictures, that fluctuates between fictionalization of history and endorsement of neoliberal dictatorship.
