The others... and the others
The others . . . and the others is the story of immigrants from San Vito sullo Ionio in Calabria, Italy, who settled in Bayonne, New Jersey and around the world. Among them was the filmmaker's father, Vito, who arrived in Bayonne in 1937 only to return to Europe as a soldier in World War II. We explore the immigrant experience of the Sanvitesi from a twenty-first century perspective. What does it mean to be the 'other' in any country, at anytime? Can the stories of migration from an Italian village help us understand and solve the issues facing immigrants today? What does it mean when the place you fled becomes the hope of others?
