Set at the Arion Press, a historic printing and bookmaking house in San Francisco, this short film shows what it takes to to make the finest books possible. In following the creation of their 100th book, an edition of Walt Whitman's original 'Leaves of Grass', we see the incredible machinery and technical processes that have been preserved at the press: from casting lead type, to printing on dampened paper, and doing nearly everything by hand. We see both the profound attention to detail required of these craftsmen, and the joy that fine type rewards them.
