Twenty-two-year-old Gavrilo Princip - assassin of the Archduke Franz Ferdinand and the Duchess Sophie - is sick and dying in prison. He is visited by a psychiatrist, Dr Cistler, who accuses him of sacrificing his own people to war and slaughter. To his surprise Cistler discovers Princip's regret is not for his deeds or convictions, but for the life - and love - that he has left behind.
