Sam is reclusive, temperamental and lonely. Increasingly dissatisfied with the world he lives in and the people who inhabit it, Sam retreats into his own mind creating situations and people that never existed. Besides creating a scrutinizing but guiding psychiatrist and a partying alter-ego, Ace he attempts to create a source of love in the form of Winter. He becomes increasingly obsessed and dependant on Winter, but as their relationship becomes more and more unbelievable Sam struggles to keep the foundation of his imaginary love story from crumbling.
