A Daughter's Debt is one of the first films to discuss and explore women's issues in Hmong culture. Three generations of Hmong-American women share their experiences of how bride purchasing, polygamy, and commodification have affected their lives in an intimate portrait of loss and hope. Ultimately, the film explores the burden these cultural practices have on the Hmong culture and community in the United States.
