Isabella and Ruggero are going to Venice. Traveling the desolate roads that criss cross the banks of the lagoon surrounding the city, they collide with a spirit of a woman. Ruggero wakes to find himself alone on the roadside. The woman leads Ruggero into the lagoon and eventually to the port of Venice, promising to reunite him with Isabella. At the end of the journey, Ruggero discovers what has happened to Isabella and himself.
