This film is a fraction of the experience of the displaced person, the outsider as she lives suspended in a space of longing for what was once. Jolene Mok uses that which is closest to her, the seals, as the symbolic equivalent for the lack in her life. She sees in the seals the same longing to be elsewhere, home or something close to home.
