Dedicated to all artists whose work was banned by authorities, BANISHED is set in 1583 in Spain during the repressive times of the Inquisition. Performed with subtle grace by Caroline Copeland, principal dancer with the New York Baroque Dance Theater, the film is a tribute to the dark mysteries of nature and human spirit. A court dancer performs for an official who suddenly stills her and writes, right then, a decree banishing all dancers of the dance called 'Zarabande' from the kingdom. Inclined to dance, no matter what audience, our protagonist continues her performance in the woods where she takes shelter.
