Sam and Katie are two Amish teenagers on their Rumspringa. This is a time where they can dress as they like, drive, drink alcohol and generally experience the outside world. It is the summer of 1967 and Sam and Katie buy an old car for a cross-country trip. Two days into their journey, their car breaks down and they cannot afford to have it repaired. While waiting for a taxicab, a hippie bus headed for the Monterey Pop Festival pulls into the gas station. The hippies offer the Amish kids a ride to California on their magic bus.
