The title of this film comes from Cindy Sherman's work 'Untitled Film Stills,' a collection of 69 photographs of herself. She suggests in her work that artistic creation is a process that unites the artist, the subject of the artwork, and the viewer. 'Untitled Film #70' explores this process, attempting to get at some essence of my own complex identity. Each role--artist, viewer, and subject--is given its own distinct imagery and space in the film. These spaces bleed into one another by the end, creating a composite image that combines these roles. All the images are inspired by photographs by various influential photographers. By incorporating these photographs and by assuming the personae of the chosen subjects, my identity is both revealed and hidden.
