The Last Great Circus Flyer
Some things are important at a certain time.
During a Ringling performance in 1982, Miguel Vazquez made national news (NY Times, NBC News, etc.,) by becoming the first trapeze performer to complete in performance what was described as 'The greatest feat in all of circus history' - a quadruple somersault to the hands of his brother and catcher, Juan. For 15 years, Miguel and his family, 'The Flying Vazquez', headlined the premiere circuses in The U.S. and Europe. In 1994, at zenith of his career, Miguel unexpectedly stopped flying - never to perform the quadruple somersault again. Filmed over a seven year period, the film focuses on the past and present lives of the members of 'The Flying Vazquez' and addresses the dangers and sometimes tragic events in the lives of circus performers. To understand why Miguel Vazquez might be 'The Last Great Circus Flyer', the film includes interviews with the greatest living trapeze flyers (past and present) and features location filming at Ringling Bros., Circus Vargas, the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art (Circus Museum) in Sarasota and backstage at the Las Vegas productions of Cirque du Soleil's 'O' and the Wynn Hotel production of 'Le Reve'.
