After the death of her father in The Civil War, Charlotte moves to live with her Uncle on his plantation. There she develops a relationship with a slave and, despite their efforts to keep their bond a secret, they are found out by Charlotte's cousin Scarlet. They're forced to decide how far they're willing to go for each other.
