Ciara and Abbie are a daughter-mother team heading into a crucial doctor's appointment to find out if the teenager's latest medical treatment has been a waste of time or a saving grace. Ciara first learned of her condition when she was 13 years of age. Much later then many other kids who find out - they have what could be a crippling medical condition called scoliosis. There are close to eight million people in America with scoliosis - almost two million of those - are children. Why do girls have a worst time with this than boys? It's a question that haunts hundreds of thousands of families. We begin when they find out if the past 6 months in a corset-style back brace 23 hours a day - means success or failure in their drive to keep Ciara OUT of an operating room. Do you undergo major surgery to have metal rods and screws implanted along her backbone to straighten her curve and twisted back?
