On Aggregate: Champions Without a Home

The Karabakh Aghdam football team from Azerbaijan have the unique claim in the football world of being the only team that has not played a 'home' game in more than 21 years. They are 'The Horsemen,' and, if still officially a 'refugee team,' in 2014 they managed to rise to the dizzying heights of the 'Group' stage of the Europa League, playing against such football giants as Ukraine's Dnipro, the French St. Etienne-and the legendary Inter-Milan of football-obsessed Italy before having further glory ripped away by an outrageous 'offside' call that revoked a perfect goal in extreme overtime. Even the Italian press described the scandal as 'the stolen goal of the year...' But the 52-minute 'On-the-Road-with-the-Team' documentary is about much more than just football/soccer. It details the horrible Karabakh war that dislocated the Horsemen team from their home stadium, includes personal stories of players who grew up in refugee dormitories and relates a personal journey-of-discovery for Livingston-based author, academic and adventurer and film-creator Thomas Goltz, who knew almost nothing about world football before attaching himself to this remarkable squad of survivors.
