In an children's foster home lives a young girl named Stacy. Her life is taken a turn when she learns from a her social worker that she is being adopted in a matter of days. Stacy does not know how to feel about this news, and is unsure sure what to expect from her new family and environment. Her best friend Nancy, who is also in the children home, decides to read her a fictional book 'The Magical Home of Apple Wood' to get her mind off of things. They retreat to their special castle tent in their bedroom, and Nancy reads to her. Minutes later they are magically transported to the world of the children's book. In the fictional world of Apple Wood Stacy and Nancy come across a fictional couple Bill and Sophie, who live in live in a nice storybook home.
