Violet and her newly laid off husband, Carl, struggle to maintain their loveless marriage and lavish lifestyle in the soon-to-be-crashing 1920's Detroit. Inspired by the budding progress of first-wave feminists, Violet pushes herself to confront the limitations of the era after befriending Mary, an upstanding medical student.
