After the shocking and untimely death of her husband, Rachel, the grieving mother of three young boys, stumbles through life in a state of unimaginable despair. Despite blaming her youngest son Pono for the demise of his father, it is Pono who ultimately helps his mother bridge the gap between Christianity/religion and Hawaiian spirituality. During a remarkable chance encounter with the Hawaiian Night Marchers, a troop of ghostly apparitions, Rachel's life is spared thanks only to wisdom and courage of young Pono. This powerful spiritual experience empowers Rachel with the potential to process her grief and reconcile the Hawaiian culture, the land, the home and the family that she has come to despise.
