Dr Al Hashimi is a human rights defender, prominent thinker and reformist who has called for greater civil and political rights in Saudi Arabia, accused of criticizing the government. After four years of detention without any legal procedure, he was sentenced to 30 years of imprisonment after an unfair trial. He is still detained despite calls from the UN for his release.
