Retreat
In today's society, we all know young adults have commitment issues. The thought of fully giving oneself towards a unifying marriage has become a collective fear. Our Millennials are consistently moving way too fast and because of our subconscious ADD mentality we make rash life decisions based on societal pressures. One example being: Jumping into a marriage too quickly based on the fear of losing 'the one' or the fear of not being married yet. 'Everyone else is hitched. What the hell is wrong with me?' We've also started to create reasons why monogamy isn't the right path, questioning the idea of what being with someone for 'forever' really means. To me, the idea of commitment inside today's modern relationships are fascinating. Therefore, I've created a short film that questions this topic. 'Retreat' is a psychological drama set in a snow covered cabin in Lake Tahoe, CA. Here, we meet Claire, a young woman who is in hiding; aka in deep recovery from just having an abortion. Attempting to heal physically and mentally, Claire begins to question this huge decision. Guilt soon bleeds into her consciousness. She starts to hallucinate, and falls into a world where the audience will confuse dreams with reality. The film's environment becomes hazy reflecting our protagonists current psychosis. Claire's full story unfolds as we discover the true secret of her internal dilemma. She finally realizes she must face her demons. And if not, they may haunt her for the rest of her life.
