When Alex Murphy, a partner in a Department of Defense contractor, threatens to go public with the company's underhanded ties to Russian industry, one of his colleagues conspires to silence him. Using Alex's prototype android, Smiler, nuclear physicist Keeton McCurdy programs the machine to kill Alex using a unique identifying item. Caught in the middle of the conflict is Cynthia La Sanka, who becomes an unintended target of Keeton's mission.
